ECMWF (European Model) Now Allows Model Images to be Posted and Take a Look at What It Has for Us Thursday Night...

Now, I am NOT at all ready to forecast anything like this, but what the European model is showing is not impossible if all the pieces come together. The model is projecting that fresh and very cold air for this time of year will drop down from Canada via a cold front, and a strong low pressure area will be situated in Northeastern Canada, helping funnel cold air into our area, at the same time that a disturbance develops in the Tennessee River Valley Thursday and then intensifies as it moves northeastward to the Delmarva or NJ Coast Thursday night into Friday morning. This would bring a swath of rain and snow through our area.

Right now the model depicts the rain/snow line roughly somewhere near Route 78, with snow to the north, possibly quite heavy, and mainly rain to the south.

Below is the latest snowfall map from the European Model that just came out. Click on the images to enlarge. It shows basically 6-9 inches for Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, most of Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT, and 1-6 inches for East Central PA, and the rest of Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT, with a coating possible in areas to the southeast of there.

Again, I am NOT saying this will happen, but it is one possibility that is worth watching and it will be fun to watch and see what happens the next few days.

Stay tuned for updates and thanks again to WeatherBell Analytics and ECMWF for allowing these images to be posted.
