Sunday, November 17, 2019 - Evening Weather Discussion

Some rain and possibly a bit of snow and ice in parts of our area…

A little drizzle will occur this evening near the coast, and there is a slight chance of some light drizzle inland, and it could get below freezing as a strong Nor’easter is passing east of our area. A disturbance will the develop over our area tomorrow night as the cold air moves back into our area behind the storm. This will bring a chance of some light rain and light snow tomorrow tonight.

It will be variably cloudy tonight into tomorrow morning with a chance of some light rain or sprinkles near the coast and a slight chance inland, with a slight chance of some freezing drizzle in East Central and Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY, and Northern Fairfield County, NY. Light rain will then develop in the late morning and afternoon, becoming steadier at night. The rain could mix with or change to snow in parts of Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and Northern Fairfield County, CT, late at night. Highs tomorrow will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Below are the freezing rain maps from the short-range American model (on top) and the European model (on bottom). Notice how they disagree on the potential for freezing rain. The reason is that the short-range American model is forecasting some precipitation to develop inland tonight, where temperatures may fall below freezing, while the European model only has some precipitation along the coast tonight, where temperatures will be above freezing. Tuesday the light rain and any light snow will end in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Below are the latest short-range American (top two) and European model (bottom two) snowfall maps for tomorrow night into Tuesday morning. Notice that the short-range American model is currently forecasting much more snowfall in Northeastern PA. I doubt that these higher snowfall amounts will happen, but it isn’t impossible. Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a sprinkle or flurry as a weak disturbance passes by our area. Highs will be in the 40’s to low 50’s.

Thursday clouds will increase with a chance of a shower at night as a cold front approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.

Friday morning there will be a chance of a shower, followed by clearing, as the cold front departs our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s in the morning, dropping in the afternoon.

Saturday, clouds will increase with a chance of showers in the afternoon and at night as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.

Next Sunday, November 24th, there will be a chance of showers as the disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Next Monday, November 25th, through next Wednesday, November 27th, are then looking nice with highs in the 40’s next Monday, and the mid 40’s to low 50’s next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Next Thursday, November 28th (Thanksgiving Day), and next Friday, November 29th (Black Friday), are  then looking nice with highs in the mid 40’s to low 50’s next Thursday and the 40’s next Friday.

Next Saturday, November 30th, is then looking nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Have a wonderful evening!
