Thursday, November 28, 2019 - Evening Weather Discussion

Strong Nor’easter potential threatens to end the holiday weekend and start the workweek in a bad way…

Tomorrow and Saturday will be nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s tomorrow and the mid 30’s to low 40’s Saturday.

Sunday, two disturbances will approach our area, one from the Great Lakes area in the Northern Jet Stream, and one from the Southeastern United States in the Southern Jet Stream. These two disturbances and the associated jet streams will likely merge off the coast of NJ, causing rapid intensification after the consolidation of the system, forming a Nor’easter.

Sunday, snow will develop in the morning, likely changing to rain in the afternoon in Central NJ, NYC, and on Long Island, and to a mixture of freezing rain, sleet, and snow in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT, and to a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow in Northeastern NJ. It will become windy at night with gusts of 20-30 mph possible inland and up to 50 mph possible along the coast and on Long Island. Highs will range from the mid to upper 20’s in Northeastern PA, Sussex County, NJ, and Orange County, NY, to the low to mid 40’s in East Central NJ.

Monday, the rain or mixed precipitation should change back to snow early in the morning in most places, except on Eastern Long Island, where the changeover may take until late morning, as the Nor’easter starts to undergo rapid intensification, pulling cold air quickly back into our area. The snow will then end in the late afternoon and evening from west to east across our area. It will be windy, with gusts of 20-35 mph possible inland and up to 50 mph along the coast and on Long Island. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.

Please look at my prior post for the latest snowfall maps from the European model. It is however much too early to say whether significant snow will fall in our area. We should have a much better idea tomorrow.

Tuesday through next Sunday, December 8th will then be nice with highs in the low to mid 30’s Tuesday, the mid 30’s to low 40’s Wednesday, the mid 30’s to mid 40’s Thursday, the mid 30’s to low 40’s Friday and Saturday, and the upper 30’s to mid 40’s next Sunday.

Next Monday, December 9th, and next Tuesday, December 10th, there will be a chance of showers as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Next Wednesday, December 11th, will then be nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Have a wonderful evening!

Have a fantastic Thanksgiving!
