Wednesday, April 29, 2020 - Morning Weather Discussion

Heavy rain and strong wind tomorrow night into Friday morning will lead to flooding and possible power outages in parts of our area…

Today will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers developing this afternoon and evening as a warm front passes through our area. Highs will range from the low 50’s on Eastern Long Island to the low to mid 60’s in East Central PA.

Tomorrow there will be a chance of showers in the morning and then showers or thunderstorms will be developing in the afternoon and evening from west to east as a strong disturbance approaches from the west. The rain could be heavy at times at night. It will also become windy, especially in Eastern PA. Maximum wind gusts will generally be 40-50 mph, but could be as high as 60 mph in parts of Eastern PA. Highs Thursday will be in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with showers likely as the disturbance slowly departs our area. It will be windy in Eastern NJ, on Long Island, in NYC, and in Fairfield County, CT, with gusts of 40-50 mph possible. Highs will be in the 60’s, with some low 70’s in inland Central NJ.

Total rainfall amounts will likely range from 1-2 inches on Long Island to 2-3, and possibly even 4 inches in some parts of East Central and Northeastern PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT. This would likely lead to some flooding in these areas and the strong wind gusts could cause some trees to fall, especially when combined with the saturated ground from the heavy rain.
