Sunday, January 31, 2021 - Daily Weather Discussion

Well, it looks as if this one will be the real deal, with widespread snowfall accumulations of 1-2 feet with localized snowfall amounts of up to 3 feet possible. Winds may also be a problem tomorrow with gusts up to 45 possible inland and up to 55 mph along the coast and on Long Island.

The heavy snow will likely lead to impassable roadways tomorrow, with stranded vehicles on highways. There will also be large snowdrifts, possibly 3-5 feet or more in some places.

The high winds will likely lead to some downed trees and branches, leading to power outages in some locations.

The long duration onshore winds from the Nor’easter may lead to moderate to severe coastal flooding in some locations.

I will be posting consistent updates throughout the storm, so please be sure to check back constantly.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program….

The snow will develop this afternoon and evening, from southwest to northeast as a strong disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 20’s to low 30’s.

Tomorrow, we will have snow, heavy at times, as the approaching strong disturbance meets a block in the atmosphere, stalling and developing into a Nor’easter near the Delmarva Peninsula and just off the NJ Coast. It will also become windy with gusts up to 45 mph possible inland, and up to 55 mph possible along the coast and on Long Island. The snow should become lighter at night. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.

Tuesday there will be light to moderate snow/snow showers/snow flurries as the Nor’easter sits and spins just off the NJ Coast, gradually weakening throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.

Total snowfall accumulations will be 1-2 feet with localized amounts of up to 3 feet possible, except in South Jersey and on Eastern Long Island where amounts could be a bit less.

Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of  a snow shower or flurry as the Nor’easter continues to spin a bit of moisture into our area. Highs will be in the mid 20’s to mid 30’s.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 30’s.

Friday and Saturday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a rain or snow shower as a cold front and disturbance pass through our area. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s Friday and the mid 30’s to low 40’s Saturday.

Next Sunday, February 7th, there will be a chance of rain or snow as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 30’s to low 40’s.

Next Monday, February 8th, there will be a chance of rain or snow ending in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the mid 20’s to mid 30’s.

Next Tuesday, February 9th, through next Saturday, February 13th, are then looking nice with highs gradually rising from the 20’s to low 30’s next Tuesday, to the mid 20’s to mid 30’s next Wednesday, the upper 20’s to mid 30’s next Thursday and Friday, and the low to mid 30’s next Saturday.
