Leave it to me to talk about a potential snowstorm Thursday on an 80 degree day in March!

Well, I just have to do it.  This is what makes this time of year so interesting and weather forecasting in general, talking about a potential snowstorm Thursday on a record-breaking 80 degree day in March...

First of all, as far as today goes, we are breaking all the records for warmth in recorded history on this date, by far, in most places, with an 80 degree temperate right now at my weather station in Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County, NJ. Just unbelievable warmth today.

Things will however get interesting next Wednesday as a strong cold front approaches from the west at the same time that blocking starts to occur to our north over Northeastern Canada and a strong disturbance approaches in the Southern Jet Stream across the Southeastern United States. This disturbance will likely combine with the cold front, potentially intensifying rapidly and moving northward through our area Wednesday night and Thursday morning. This storm would have the potential to pull very cold air down from Canada, and plenty cold to change any rain to snow before ending Thursday morning in areas to the west of the track of the storm center. Of course, this all comes down to the exact track, intensity, and so on, so there are a lot of variables to work out to see if any of this will even occur, but right now the two best models, the European model, and the new American model which is currently performing almost as good as the European model, both have a very interesting snowstorm for parts of our area next Thursday morning.

Time will tell.

Have a wonderful evening!
