Showers and thunderstorms developing tonight and continuing through tomorrow, and some of the showers and thunderstorms could be severe, and then how does the holiday weekend look?
First, I have to say that the heat in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and into Canada was unreal and just scary. There was an all-time record high in Canada of 121 degrees and in Portland, Oregon, of 116 degrees. These temperatures so far north are just incredible. This is just scary, that is the truth. There is no sugar-coating this, it is insane, and the climate is warming. We can debate until the end of time about why, and I am not going there, but it is warming, there is just no question about it. Anyone who disagrees, that is fine, but then you are in denial of reality.
Today will be variably cloudy with a chance of a late afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm in Northeastern PA and Orange and Putnam Counties in NY State, and then throughout our area at night. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe as a strong cold front and disturbance approach from the west. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80’s on Long Island, the upper 80’s to low 90’s along the coast in NYC, and on Long Island, the mid 90’s in East Central PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State and inland Fairfield County, CT, and the mid to upper 90’s in inland Central NJ.
Tomorrow, showers and thunderstorms will be likely, possibly heavy at times. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe as a strong cold front and disturbance pass through our area. Highs will range from the low to mid 70’s in Northeastern PA to the mid 80’s in Central NJ.
Friday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or sprinkle, especially in the morning, then there will be clearing late in the day as the cold front passes off the coast. Highs will range from the low 70’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 70’s to low 80’s in Central NJ.
Saturday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm as there may remain some instability behind the cold front. Highs will be in the low to mid 70’s.
Independence Day will be variably cloudy with just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm as the atmosphere could remain just a little unstable behind the cold front. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70’s.
Monday and Tuesday will then be nice with highs rising from the upper 70’s on Long Island and the 80’s elsewhere Monday, to the 80’s with some low 90’s in East Central PA and Central NJ Tuesday.
Next Wednesday, July 7th, through next Monday, July 12th, are then looking variably cloudy with a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm each day. Highs next Wednesday will be in the low 80’s on Long Island and the mid to upper 80’s elsewhere, with some low 90’s in East Central PA and Central NJ, the 80’s next Thursday, the low to mid 80’s next Friday, the upper 70’s on Long Island and the low to mid 80’s elsewhere next Saturday, the upper 70’s to mid 80’s next Sunday, and the low to mid 80’s next Monday.
Next Tuesday, July 13th, is then looking nice with highs in the low to mid 80’s.
