COLD today and then the next big story will be a potential strong Nor’easter Monday…
Today will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry early in the morning as some Lake Effect moisture may reach our area. Highs will range from the low teens in Northeastern PA to the low 20’s in Central NJ.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.
Thursday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry as a cold front passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.
Friday and Saturday will then be variably cloudy with highs in the 30’s Friday, dropping to from the low teens in Northeastern PA to the low 20’s in Central NJ.
The big question then comes with a disturbance that will be dropping down from the north, through the Mid-Western States and approaching the Gulf Coast. If this disturbance reaches the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico it will likely explosively develop and move quickly northeastward up the East Coast, developing into a strong Nor’easter and bringing our area a chance at a heavy snowfall developing Sunday night and mainly on Monday. If this disturbance does not dive down into the Gulf of Mexico, it will harmlessly push eastward and out to sea, leaving us dry on Monday. This situation has some resemblance to the uncertainty in the models prior to the Boxing Day storm about 10 years ago that brought our area a surprise blizzard the day after Christmas. This whole forecast for Sunday night into Monday hinges on whether this disturbance dives into the Gulf of Mexico. If it does, we may very well have a blizzard on Monday. If it doesn’t, we will likely have a sunny day on Monday. Time will tell, so check back for updates. Highs Sunday will be in the mid 20’s to low 30’s and will be in the 30’s Monday.
Next Tuesday, January 18th, through next Monday, January 24th, are currently looking nice with highs in ranging mainly from the mid 20’s to mid 30’s, but a bit warmer next Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 30’s.
