Tuesday, October 8, 2024 - Weather Discussion

Looking good till Sunday in our area, but as for Florida, oh my…

The Central West Coast of Florida may be completely destroyed by the storm surge that will be produced by Hurricane Milton. Yesterday, Milton became the strongest Hurricane on the planet this year, with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph at one point. Milton will move Northeastward from off the Yucatan Peninsula, making landfall early Thursday morning somewhere near Tampa Bay. The highest winds and strongest storm surge always happen just south of where the center of circulation makes landfall. This would put areas from Fort Myers northward to Tampa Bay in the worst place for storm surge, with the highest population of people in this area of maximum storm surge being Sarasota, where there may be unbelievable storm surge, washing away entire parts of the area. It can not be understated how serious this situation is going to be. This is the strongest storm I have ever seen anywhere near the United States. Usually storms like this happen in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, far from land. This is an unbelievably dangerous situation.

In our area, things are looking good through Saturday, but it will be cooler with lows reaching the 40’s tomorrow through Friday and highs mainly in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers as a disturbance passes north of our are and then a cold front passes through. Highs will be in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.

Monday through the following Monday, October 21st, are currently looking dry with highs in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s Monday, dropping to the 50’s next Tuesday and Wednesday, then rising to the mid 50’s to low 60’s next Thursday, the low to mid 60’s next Friday, the mid to upper 60’s next Saturday, and the mid 60’s to low 70’s next Sunday and Monday.
