Latest American Model Says My Forecast Is Correct
It is saying that the storm will be slightly weaker than originally forecast, bringing our area less precipitation and a little less wind, but the slightly weaker intensity allows for more cold air to be in place in Northern New Jersey. This means that a large part of the storm is likely to be frozen or freezing precipitation, with the possibility of even some freezing rain towards the end of the storm late on Wednesday night. Areas east of Route 287 should get a dusting to 2 inches of accumulation of snow and ice and areas to the west of roughly Route 287 and north of Route 78 should get 2-5 inches of snow and ice accumulation. The medium range American model now looks very much like the European model, finally. The main concern here will be that the winds could still gust to 40mph or so, and this combined with the snow and ice accumulation on the trees could definitely lead to more downed trees and power lines. The start time is between 9am and 12 noon on Wednesday and the precipitation should end early on Thursday morning before sunrise.
