Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 - Morning Weather Discussion
We will have mostly sunny and hot days today and tomorrow, with just a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm both days and highs in the mid to upper 80’s today, and the mid 80’s tomorrow. Thursday we will have a cold front approaching our area (the same one that went through Oklahoma yesterday) bringing with it heavy showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. After this front passes through it will bring MUCH cooler temperatures to our area on Friday, with highs only reaching the upper 50’s, and this is the reason that the tornadoes were so horrendous in Oklahoma yesterday. When the very warm and moist air that we have in place meets with the cold and dry air dropping down from Canada, it does indeed produce very strong thunderstorms and often tornadoes. This will all be reaching us on Thursday afternoon, but of course, if we do see any tornadoes on Thursday, it is highly unlikely that we would experience anything even remotely similar to what Oklahoma saw yesterday. It will then remain dry but cool through the Memorial Day weekend, with highs in the upper 60’s. Of course, things will likely warm up right after the holiday weekend, with highs likely approaching or exceeding 90 degrees by the end of next week.
