Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 - Morning Weather Discussion
Well, well, well, Mother Nature may throw us a surprise after all. Remember I talked about a possible tropical system bringing us some very bad weather for today? Well, that storm will not be happening today at all as it heads out to sea off the southeast coast; however, it will make it out off the Carolina Coast and start to develop on Thursday and Friday. It will then, according to the European model, do a Sandy-like turn back to the west again and head straight for the New Jersey coast, making landfall on Sunday night along the New Jersey coast as a tropical storm, or possibly even as a weak hurricane. Right now it is the only model showing this type of turn by the storm, but at this time frame with Sandy it was also the only model showing such a thing and its accuracy rating in this time frame is much higher than with any other model, so this is definitely something to be concerned about and to keep an eye on. Of course it may still head out to sea or turn to the north but miss us out to sea, but the fact that it shows a Sandy-like turn and impact on the New Jersey coast is concerning. However, it is NOT forecast to become a strong storm at all, just a tropical storm, or possibly a weak hurricane and there is certainly no guarantee at all that it will make landfall. Check back for updates late this afternoon or early this evening. The next system of concern won’t be until around the following weekend when another rather strange and deep area of low pressure may be traversing the United States, bringing the potential for some rather bazaar weather for about 2 weeks from now. The European and American models also differ on the temperatures for next week, with the European model showing warm temperatures for most of next week, and the American model starting out warm but turning cool toward the end of the week, so we will just have to wait and see. Check back for important updates this evening.
