Friday, October 4th, 2013 - Evening Weather Discussion
Tropical Storm Karen is still on track to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle on Sunday, then weaken quickly but combine forces with an approaching cold front to bring us heavy rain on Monday night and possibly into Tuesday morning. No major flooding problems are expected but there will likely be some flash flooding of small streams. After this things should cool down and dry out for an extended time until the middle of the following week. At that time, a storm system is likely to form in the Mid West and head towards the Great Lakes, bringing areas of the Mid West and Western Great Lakes their first snowfall, and eventually around Thursday of the week after next bringing snow flurries to New York State and the Poconos, and possibly even into our area. After this, and approaching the ominous October 27th date of the prior two years, and the anniversary of one of the strongest tornadoes to ever hit New Jersey that nearly hit my home and got me interested in weather occurred on the evening of October 26th, 1981, the models are currently indicating the possibility of a hurricane entering eastern portions of the Gulf of Mexico at the same time that cold air sits just to our north over Canada. In all seriousness, we need to keep a close eye on this situation for good reason.
