Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 - Evening Weather Discussion

Tropical Storm Karen in the Gulf of Mexico will likely develop into a hurricane and make landfall near Panama City, Florida on Sunday, then head in our direction but lose it's tropical storm characteristics as it weakens over land.  It will reach our area on Monday but also stall out and combine with a cold front to bring some heavy rain to our area on Monday and Tuesday of next week, possibly lightening up for Tuesday briefly before re-developing on Wednesday and possibly lingering into Thursday.  So, next week now looks bad from Monday through Thursday.  Another cold front will likely approach for the following Monday and Tuesday, bringing more rain and much colder air behind it.  At the same time another tropical system is likely to be reaching the Gulf of Mexico just as the colder air settles into the Northeastern United States.  We will need to keep a close eye on the low that will be entering the Gulf of Mexico around that time.  It is also interesting to me how this cold air seems to want to settle deep into the Northeast.  I hate to say it, but we saw this the past two years in a row.  Need to keep a close eye on it.
