Saturday, November 16th, 2013 - Morning Weather Discussion

We will have variably cloudy skies today with a high in the mid 50’s, followed by a chance of showers tomorrow and a high in the upper 50’s.  Monday we will have rain early in the morning, followed by clearing and an early high in the low 60’s, with temperatures dropping late in the afternoon after the cold front passes.  Tuesday through Thursday should then be nice with highs in the mid 40’s on Tuesday and Wednesday and around 50 on Thursday.  Friday we will then have increasing cloudiness with a chance of showers developing in the afternoon as a cold front approaches.  This cold front will push through on Friday evening and it is possible that some moisture will linger behind this front, much as the one that brought some snow to our area this week.  This could cause the rain showers to turn to snow showers on Friday night.  One thing is for sure, if we do get any accumulation of snow on Friday night, it will stick around for the entire weekend.  It is likely to get quite cold behind this front with another chance of snow showers on Saturday night, as a weak area of low pressure will pass by.  It will be extremely cold for this time of year with highs only in the mid 30’s on Saturday and the low 30’s on Sunday.  Lows may reach the upper teens to low 20’s by next Monday morning with highs only in the mid 30’s again next Monday.  Then there are a lot of questions as to whether a storm will form over the Southeastern United States the days prior to Thanksgiving.  If this storm does form it could be quite intense with the potential for heavy precipitation.  Right now the timing appears to be for the day before Thanksgiving and the current projected track would allow warm air to surge north into our area ahead of the storm.  This would allow the precipitation to fall as rain as the storm would track either to our west or right over us.  If the track of this storm were to shift to our east or south it would allow the cold cold air to remain in place over us and would mean snow instead.  There are just too many questions at this point to be sure of anything so I just went with what the current model is showing.  We need to keep a close eye on this potential however.  It also appears that another storm may form behind this one for the day after Thanksgiving and this one would have a much greater chance of being snow.
