Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 - Evening Weather Discussion

The European model had said we would get between 2 and 3 inches of snow throughout Northern New Jersey and that is pretty much exactly what we got.  At my location the European model had forecast 2.5 inches and I measured 2.5 inches.  Now we will have to deal with the extremely cold weather with lows dropping to the single digits the next 2 mornings and highs struggling to break 20 degrees on Thursday and Saturday.  Then we will have to watch as another storm develops along the Gulf Coast and moves in our direction.  This storm is likely to form into another Nor'easter that will bring light snow starting around mid day on Saturday. The light snow is likely to become moderate in the evening and then the big question is whether it will change to sleet and freezing rain and then possibly rain on Sunday morning, prior to ending in the early afternoon on Sunday.  Of this I am not certain.  The last run of the European model was completely snow for our area but the ensemble mean does start us out with significant snow but changes us over to rain. We will have to keep a close eye on this storm as we are currently on the border between a mixed storm with several inches of snow and some ice and possibly rain, or an all-out snowstorm.  Then it will get brutally cold after this storm passes, with lows possibly dropping below zero on Tuesday morning.  Then another Nor'easter may form off the Middle Atlantic Coast next Wednesday.  We will have to see whether this storm really does form, and if it does form, if it is a storm for us or for the fish.  Then there is likely to be another storm for the following weekend, followed by another storm for Tuesday, December 23rd.  Check back in the morning for the latest in this saga.
