We will have a chance of a snow shower this afternoon,
followed by snow developing tomorrow afternoon and continuing through the
night. The snow should accumulate to 1-4
inches throughout our area before ending early in the morning on Monday. It will then get quite cold on Tuesday with
lows dropping into the low to mid single digits.
On Tuesday a storm will start developing in the Gulf of
Mexico, bringing heavy snow and ice to areas of the Deep South from Northeast
Georgia through Northern and Western South Carolina, and throughout all of
North Carolina. Fortunately, this run of
the model has more in the way of snow for these areas than the prior run and less
of the freezing rain; however, there will likely be a significant accumulation
of both in the area I just mentioned.
This could cause some very significant problems as 5-10 inches of snow
could fall, followed by a half to two thirds of an inch of ice.
The storm will then start moving north, up the coast, on
Wednesday, bringing heavy snow to inland areas of Virginia, Maryland (including
Washington D.C. and Baltimore), Eastern Pennsylvania (including Philadelphia),
New Jersey (excluding extreme Southeastern Sections near Cape May and Atlantic
City), extreme Southeastern New York State (including New York City and Long
Island), and all of New England (excluding Cape Cod, Massachusetts). The areas excluded will most likely receive
mainly rain from this storm. The snow
potential for this storm is currently around 4-8 inches in these areas. In the Northern New Jersey and New York City area the snow will fall from Wednesday night through Thursday morning.
After that storm passes we will have briefly warmer temperatures
next Friday with a high around 40, followed by another chance of snow next
Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.
Then, it appears that this weather pattern may break,
bringing us chances for warmer weather and rain for the following week.
