Changing to Snow NOW in Northwest NJ so Snowfall Amounts May be Higher

The rain is already changing to snow in Northwest New Jersey as both the precipitation and temperatures are falling earlier than expected.  In fact, the United States short-range model did not have Northwest New Jersey down to the 34 degrees that it is now until 1 am tomorrow morning.

Roads may start to become slippery shortly, especially in the higher elevations where temperatures may already be below freezing.

So, what does this mean for snow accumulation potential?

Well, it is still above freezing in most locations so much of the snow that falls initially will melt, however some of the higher elevations are likely already near freezing.

My new projections would be for most areas to get a dusting to an inch across Northern New Jersey with the possibility of the higher terrain to receive as much as possibly 1-2 inches.

The snow should stop between 3 am and 7 am from west to east across Northern New Jersey.

More a bit later with the Evening weather discussion.
