Monday, November 24, 2014 - Evening Weather Discussion

My weather station recorded a high temperature today of 70 degrees!  Amazing…  What else is amazing is that we have one more day of nice weather before a major Nor’easter brings heavy snow to many of the major cities along the East Coast at the busiest time for travel of the entire year…

Tomorrow will be nice with highs in the low to mid 50’s.

Then all the fun begins on Wednesday morning as a low pressure area starts to develop in the Gulf of Mexico and then turns into a Nor’easter as it heads northward up the East Coast.

I expect a large swath of 6-12 inches of snow, with localized amounts of 12-18 inches from the Southern Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina up through Western Virginia, Central Maryland, the Eastern half of Pennsylvania, the Northern half of New Jersey, Southeastern New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts (excluding extreme southeastern sections), the southern half of Vermont, New Hampshire, and most of Maine.  The cities of Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston are all likely to be included in this area.  About 50-100 miles either side of this area there will be an area of 1-6 inches of snow that that will extend to about Richmond, Virginia and up through central and parts of Southern New Jersey and Eastern Long Island and through central Pennsylvania and central and northern New York State and Northern Vermont.

In Northern New Jersey the snow should start about 6 am on Wednesday morning and it might start as light rain or very wet snow as the temperatures may very well start out in the upper 30’s to low 40’s as the precipitation starts.  Temperatures will however fall very quickly after the precipitation starts and as the intensity of the precipitation increases.  Tthe temperatures will drop to between 32 and 34 degrees causing any rain or wet snow to change to all snow and it will become heavy at times.  Travel will likely become difficult by late morning or early afternoon and may very well become extremely difficult and dangerous by late afternoon.  The snow should come to an end in the early morning hours on Thanksgiving Day.  By the time the snow ends all of Northern New Jersey should have total accumulations of 6-12 inches with the possibility of some locations receiving more than one foot.

It will then be cold for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday with highs in the mid 30’s and lows dropping to the teens for those wanting to do some shopping early on Black Friday morning.

Luckily it now looks that we will warm up after that with only chances for a bit of light rain on Monday and heavier rain for next Thursday and Friday.  Highs should be in the 40’s early next week, rising to the 50’s to near 60 by late next week.

Just beyond this time period is when I think we might have our next threat of a snowstorm sometime around Tuesday or Wednesday December 6th or 7th.  I think we could very well have a similar situation to the one we will be getting this Wednesday as a Nor’easter may form along the Southeast Coast along a stalled out cold front.  We shall see.

Have a wonderful evening and please join me in the morning by 6:30 am with my morning forecast and two week look ahead.  Of course, if anything changes in the data prior to then you can be sure to expect one of my quick updates.

Please tell all of your friends about this blog.

And if you want to escape all of this stuff, my dad happens to own a real estate company in Florida. Click here to view his company website.  It was 86 degrees there yesterday.
