Well, I have been talking about the possibility of a
Thanksgiving Nor’easter for the past 10 days, starting back on Friday, November
14th. It is going to happen and it could not happen at a worse
possible time…
First though the rain will come to an end later this
morning then we will have chance of a shower through early afternoon. It
will be warm today with highs in the mid 60’s.
Tomorrow will be a nice day as the cold front will
come through early in the morning clearing things out. This will however
let the colder air start to filter in on Tuesday night. It will still be
nice and warm though on Tuesday with highs in the low 50’s.
Wednesday all the fun will begin as a low pressure
area will start to develop in the Gulf of Mexico and move northward up the
coast on Wednesday and into Thanksgiving morning.
This will cause a swath of 6-12 inches of snow, with
localized amounts of 12-20 inches likely (especially in New England), from the
Southern Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee up through just
west of Richmond, Virginia, through Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia,
New York City, and Boston and up to Maine. Coastal locations may escape
the heavy snow in the Middle Atlantic region as some warm air may keep it rain
right along the coast, maybe.
The starting time in Northern New Jersey will be
between around 4 am and 7am on Wednesday morning and travel will likely be
quite difficult by early afternoon and especially at night when it may become
nearly impossible in some locations.
Total expected accumulations in Northern New Jersey
after it ends on Thanksgiving morning are widespread amounts of 6-12 inches
with localized amounts of 12-18 inches likely.
After this storm passes it will be very cold for those
of you who plan on going shopping on Black Friday with lows in the teens and
highs only in the low to mid 30’s.
We will have a chance of a snow shower on Saturday and
then the next chance of wintry precipitation will be on Monday and Tuesday
mornings when we have a chance of a bit of rain or snow.
Beyond that I am watching for some warmer temperatures
and the potential of some heavy rain toward the end of next week.
And if you want to escape all of
this stuff, my dad happens to own a real estate company in Florida. Click here to
view his company website. It was 86 degrees there yesterday.
