Sunday, November 2, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

I saw the potential for a very interesting weather situation along the East Coast yesterday; from about two weeks out, as those of you who follow me here know.

Maine is getting pummeled with heavy snow today, as will possibly much of Eastern New England as the storm is bombing off shore, but is too far east for us.

There was a record early season snowfall in Columbia, South Carolina yesterday and snowflakes were even seen in Charleston, South Carolina for the first time in recorded history so early in the season.  Click here to watch one video of the snow in South Carolina and click here to watch another video of the snow in the mountains of North Carolina.

And here is an article and video about the SURPRISE snow in Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina.  Of course, it was no surprise to those of you who read this blog.

I said it would be an interesting situation and it was for some people along the East Coast.

For our area it was not as interesting, although Central New Jersey and the New York City area did get a bit more interesting weather with a bit more rain.  This has been the case already a couple of times so far with these Nor’easters this season and that may very well end up being the pattern for this winter.

Moving forward, it will be quite cool today and tomorrow, and then it will warm up quite a bit on Tuesday and Wednesday as warm air surges north into our area ahead of an approaching cold front.  The highs will be around 60 on Tuesday and in the low to mid 60’s on Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday morning a storm will develop over our area, bringing us some heavy rain on Thursday into Friday morning with showers continuing into Friday afternoon before the cold front moves through in the evening.

Saturday will then be nice, but cold with highs only in the mid 40’s.

Next Sunday should start out nice but clouds will increase in the afternoon and there will be a chance of rain or snow at night as a storm will likely form along the East Coast.  How the storm exactly develops and the track that it takes will determine whether we get rain or snow next Sunday night into Monday morning.  The high next Sunday will be in the mid 40’s and in the low 40’s next Monday.

Next Tuesday afternoon through Thursday we will have variably cloudy skies with a chance of a shower and highs from the mid 40’s to the low 50’s.

Next Friday will be mostly sunny and cold with highs only in the low to mid 40’s.

Next Saturday we will have a chance of rain or snow and highs will be in the low 40’s.

I am going on the record now as saying that I am VERY interested in a possible Nor’easter developing around the weekend of November 15th or 16th, with the potential for a piece of energy dropping down from the Northern Jet Stream to merge with a piece of energy moving up from the Southern Jet Stream.  We will have to wait and see how that works out, if it does at all.
