Monday, December 29, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

We escaped two snow threats for today and tomorrow.  Will we escape another snow threat late next weekend?

Two storms that would have brought us snow today and tomorrow will both miss us to the south, leaving us dry but cold through Saturday with highs in the 30’s.

Then for next weekend, what has been happening so far this meteorological winter (meteorological winter runs from December through February), is that either storms have been cutting to our west and heading into the Great Lakes, bringing us warm air and rain, or they have been missing us to the south and east and keeping us cold and dry.

The models had been indicating that the storm for next weekend would again take a track into the Great Lakes bringing us temperatures in the 50’s next weekend with rain.  Then yesterday the models turned around and indicated a snow threat, but as has been the case in the past so far this winter, the models are now starting to suppress this storm to the south and east of us which would keep us cold and dry.  So, will it happen again?  Will we escape another snow threat next weekend?  We very well may.  Typically these patterns stay in place the whole winter so I would not be at all surprised if this one misses us again next weekend to our south and east.  We will have to wait and see.  For now, I left a slight chance of snow in the forecast for next Sunday night into Monday morning in case this storm tracks a bit further north than the previous ones, but I would not bank on it at all.  I feel it is more likely that this storm will do the same as the others and we will stay cold and dry but only time will tell.  I will keep a very close eye on it for you.

After that storm passes next Monday there will be a chance of a snow shower next Tuesday, then it will get quite cold for the middle to end of next week before the next storm threatens us with either rain or snow the following weekend.
