The weekend storm threat has fizzled out today while the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day storm threat looks worse...
The weekend storm threat is going to turn into a nuisance type storm, as the piece of energy that was supposed to drop down from Canada and cause the storm to rapidly intensify is apparently much weaker than originally projected by the models.
This will leave us with only a chance of some light snow on Sunday that could accumulate to probably a dusting or an inch or two in some locations. It could even mix with or change to rain as the precipitation will be light and the temperatures will be above freezing during the day.
Unfortunately, the Christmas Eve and Christmas day storm threat looks worse. It now looks as if it could even start as early as Tuesday morning as some light snow and then possibly change to freezing rain before changing to rain. This one has looked as if it could potentially be quite intense and it is actually looking worse than even before. This storm continues to look like mainly a rain event for Christmas Eve. There will likely also be strong winds and it may adversely affect travel for a large part of the country as it may be a huge storm, covering an area from the Upper Great Plains through much of the eastern part of the country on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day we would then have a chance for snow showers behind the storm.
Another storm may threaten for the following weekend and for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
