Tuesday, December 23, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

Those of you wanting to see some snow, hang in there, you may get your chance next week…

Who could have imagined that we would have a white Thanksgiving and then 60 degrees for Christmas Eve and early Christmas morning?  Well, that is exactly what is going to happen…

Luckily, as I had expected, very few places had problems with any freezing rain last evening.  Temperatures have already risen to around or over 40 degrees in many locations as the warm air is starting to surge northward into our area ahead of a developing storm system over the Tennessee River Valley and highs will reach the low to mid 40’s today with the light rain and showers.

Tomorrow the rain will become heavy at times and it will become windy as the storm intensifies and heads northward into the Great Lakes.  This track will pump warm air northward into our area on the strong southerly winds, allowing temperatures to rise all day and into the night, reaching around 60 degrees by late Christmas Eve.

Expect the possibility of heavy travel delays up and down the East Coast on Christmas Eve with the heavy rain and wind.  And for those of you heading south to Florida for the holiday; remember that my dad owns a real estate company in Florida. Click here to view his company website.

Christmas Day we will have rain heavy at times early in the morning and it will be windy.  The rain will end shortly after sunrise, and then things will clear out. The pre-dawn high temperature will be around 60, dropping to the mid to upper 40’s shortly after sunrise and holding steady all day.

Friday and Saturday should then be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40’s on Friday and around 50 on Saturday.

Sunday a cold front will approach our area, bringing a chance of showers with highs in the mid to upper 40’s.

Then the story for all next week MAY end up being that the cold front sets up just to our south, allowing cold air to work into our area, with storm systems developing in the Southeastern United States along the front and working their way northeastward along the front.  With the cold air in place IF the cold front sets up to our south, this would bring us chances for snow just about any day from Monday through next Sunday with lows in the 20’s and highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s.

Please keep in mind that even though my detailed look at the next two weeks lists a chance of snow every day next week Monday through next Sunday, it will definitely NOT snow the entire time.  Again, there MAY end up being several waves of low pressure moving along a stalled-out front to our south, bringing chances of snow any time from Monday through next Sunday but it is nearly impossible at this time to put an exact time on these disturbances, so it is possible that they could start one evening, then carry over into the morning of the next day with clearing, then the next one moves in and so on, so it WILL NOT snow the entire time but there will be chances of snow each day at some point or other.  I will be able to get a time frame on each of these a few days from now but right now it is impossible to time the disturbances.  Of course, it is also possible that none of this will happen, but right now this is the way it looks.

Things should finally clear out next Monday with highs in the low to mid 30’s.

Have a great day!
