Monday, February 23, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

What a wonderful day it was yesterday to melt some of the snow away...

The high yesterday was 42 at my location. I just wish it would have lasted, but it won't...

HISTORIC LOW TEMPERATURES POSSIBLE TUESDAY MORNING THROUGHOUT THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA!!!

Widespread lows in the UPPER TO MIDDLE SINGLE DIGITS BELOW ZERO are likely Tuesday morning, with temperatures as low as -15 very possible in the coldest valleys.

Then it looks like we may get lucky as a low pressure area will form in the Southeastern United States but should stay to our south and east on Thursday morning. I will however keep a slight chance of snow in the forecast for Thursday morning just in case, as the piece of energy responsible for allowing this storm to turn northward up the coast will not come inland on the West Coast until later today. Sometimes surprises happen when these pieces of energy come inland and the models get the new data. While it is not likely this storm will turn far enough north up the coast to affect our area, it is not impossible. I will keep a close eye on this.

Then next Sunday through Tuesday may be ugly as a frontal system will set up nearby and some low pressure areas will ride along it. Right now the best bet would be that we would be looking at a mixture of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain on Sunday and Monday and a chance of snow on Tuesday, but we will have to wait and see.

It should then be nice next Wednesday through Friday before the next storm system approaches with a chance of rain or snow next Saturday and Sunday.
