Monday, February 9, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

First of all, this blog reached 1.8 million all-time page views last evening. I could have never imagined that this would have even been possible when this blog was created for me. Thank you to all of you who read this blog every day. I really do appreciate it very much. Special thanks go out to Mike and Heather Michels, Jim Dunbar, Dave Conca, Joe Diblasi, and Dan Bertelli, from Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ, who were instrumental in producing this blog.

This storm turned into quite a mess. The roads crews are encouraging people to stay off the roads if at all possible this morning. Unfortunately, lots more cold and snow on the way over the next two weeks…

Today we will have snow/sleet/freezing rain all day today, gradually changing to snow everywhere by tonight. The ice could accumulate up to a quarter inch today.

The light snow will finally come to an end early tomorrow morning, accumulating to a dusting to an inch south of Rt. 78, an inch to two inches between Routes 78 and 80, 1-3 inches north of Rt. 80, 2-4 inches for Pike County, PA, Northern Sussex and Northern Passaic Counties in NJ, and 2-5 inches in Orange County, NY. It will then clear out with highs in the low to mid 30’s.

Wednesday should then be mostly sunny with highs around 30.

Thursday an Alberta Clipper (see Key Terms to the left on this page) will approach our area from the west and will intensify as it hits the New Jersey Coast on Thursday evening. This will bring us a chance of some snow on Thursday and Thursday night, ending early on Friday morning. The snow could accumulate 1-3 inches.

It will then clear out on Friday but be VERY COLD with lows in the low to mid single digits and highs only in the low to mid teens.

Saturday we will have increasing cloudiness in the morning as another Alberta Clipper approaches our area, bringing another chance of snow from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning as the storm will intensify as it reaches the New Jersey Coast. The snow could accumulate 1-3 inches.

Sunday will then be VERY COLD with lows in the low to mid single digits and highs only in the low teens.

Next Monday will be mostly sunny but VERY COLD with lows around zero and highs in the upper teens.

Next Tuesday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of snow developing in the afternoon as a storm system approaches from the southeast. This will likely be our next chance at a significant snowstorm. The snow should continue into Wednesday. The highs will be mainly in the upper 20’s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Next Thursday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 20’s.

Next Friday and Saturday we will then have a chance for snow as another storm system approaches our area from the southeast. This storm could again be significant. Highs will generally be in the upper 20’s next Friday and Saturday.

Next Sunday should then be mostly sunny with highs around 30.

Wow, lots of chances for snow and some very cold weather over the next two weeks…

If you have to drive today, please be careful.
