As we are getting closer in time here to the impending snowstorm. I am starting to get a VERY clear picture as to what is about to happen...
The snow will come down extremely hard prior to the changeover, at a rate of about 2 inches per hour. It now appears that the sharp cut-off that I outlined previously may not have a chance to happen as the precipitation will race in before it even has a chance to warm up much.
This reminds me greatly of what happened last weekend when we got the 7.5 inches of snow.
It now appears that all of Northern NJ will get at least 5-6 inches of snow before any changeover.
At 4 AM it is snow everywhere and by that time we have 4-6 inches everywhere in Northern New Jersey. The question is does it then change over to sleet and freezing rain at 4:15 or 6:30? I can't tell yet and that makes all the difference in the world as it will be snowing at a rate of 2 inches per hour when it changes over. So, you can picture the difficulty in trying to nail down snowfall amounts.
I am going to build a snowman with my son now, but I will come back in later and re-do the snowfall estimates.
