We lucked out as far as the heavy snow goes, but the ice was
miserable and there are lots more chances for snow on the way over the next two
weeks…
We have really been getting off relatively easy, as far as
the snow goes, but the ice can be a killer also, as evidenced by the major pile
up on the New Jersey Turnpike last night. Click here to view the story. Meanwhile Boston has recorded more than 6 feet
of snow this winter and they will have a lot more on the way over the next two
weeks. Click here to view that story.
Today it will clear out and it will be nice tomorrow as well
before our next storm system approaches for Thursday.
Thursday an Alberta Clipper (see key terms to the left of
the page) will approach our area, bringing with it a chance of light snow
developing between 10-11 am and ending between 10 pm and midnight. The snow
could accumulate to a dusting to an inch or two. Eastern Long Island and
especially Southeastern New England and Boston will get another significant
snowstorm with this one.
Friday will then be nice but very cold with lows in the low
to mid single digits and highs only in the mid teens.
Saturday another Alberta Clipper will approach the area. At
the moment it looks as if the snow will start around mid day and continue into
Sunday morning, bringing us a chance of 1-3 inches of snow. However, this one
needs to be watched closely as there is the possibility for explosive
development once it reaches the New Jersey Coast on Saturday evening. Right now
it looks as if it should be far enough off shore to save us the from the worst
of the storm, instead again giving that to Eastern Long Island and New England,
but we will need to keep a close eye on it.
It will then clear out on Sunday afternoon and Monday but it
will be VERY COLD with highs only in the low teens on Sunday and lows reaching
the mid to low single digits BELOW ZERO on Monday morning with highs in the mid
to upper teens on Monday.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday we will then have a chance of
snow as a storm system approaches our area from the southwest.
Next Thursday should then be nice before our next chance of
snow next Friday and Saturday.
