There is the potential of a very significant snowstorm
Sunday through Tuesday…
First though, there will be a chance of a snow shower today
but it will be warmer with highs in the mid 30’s.
Tomorrow we will have some light snow and snow showers that
should accumulate to around an inch in most locations.
Friday should then be nice but cold with lows around zero
and highs in the low to mid 20’s.
Saturday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of
snow developing late at night.
Sunday a cold front will be situated just to our south and a
low pressure area will be riding along the front, diving into the Tennessee
River Valley by Monday morning. This storm will then intensify as it heads
northeast to a point near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina by Tuesday
morning. The storm will then move
northeast and up the coast during the day on Tuesday.
This track of the storm would bring us snow from Sunday
through Tuesday, possibly into Wednesday morning with the likelihood of
significant accumulations, and possibly even very significant accumulations.
We will have to keep a very close eye on this situation as
the potential is there for some incredible snowfall amounts somewhere in either
the Middle Atlantic or New England areas. It is however much too early to tell
who will be in the prime spot for this storm, or if it will go out to sea.
I will just say that at this moment in time there is about
an 80% chance of a significant snowstorm between Sunday and Tuesday, a 60%
chance of a very significant snowstorm, and about a 20% chance of an extremely
significant snowstorm in our area.
After this storm passes the next storms to watch will be for
next Saturday and again the following Monday and Tuesday.
Please check back this evening for the latest.
