Saturday, August 27, 2016 - Evening Weather Discussion

Two heat waves and a hurricane possible...

There is the possibility of two heat waves over the next two weeks. We are two days into one right now that could last through Wednesday or possibly Thursday in many places in the Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas, that are inland away from the coast. Then there will be the possibility of another heat wave next Sunday through Tuesday, unless a potential developing hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico rains on that next Tuesday.

As for that potential hurricane developing near Florida, it is now looking more likely than it did this morning that the storm could indeed make its way into the Central Gulf of Mexico early next week. This could allow the storm to develop into the hurricane and then it would likely track northeastward making landfall late next week somewhere between about New Orleans and Tampa Bay. It is much too early to tell how this will work out, but there is indeed again the potential for a major hurricane there as I stated several days ago. Hurricanes are extremely difficult to forecast, so anyone in those areas should keep a close eye on this storm potential.

If this storm were to develop into a hurricane and take the currently projected track, it could bring some heavy rain to our area next Tuesday as the remnants of this storm could combine with an approaching cold front. It is much too early to tell how this will all work out, so be sure to check back for updates.

Have a wonderful evening and let's keep an eye on the potential for a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
