Thursday, August 25, 2016 - Morning Weather Discussion

Nice through Monday with just slight chances for showers/thunderstorms, but a hurricane possible to our south…

It will be nice through Monday with just a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm today, tomorrow, and Monday. Highs will be mainly in the mid to upper 80’s, and some low to mid 90’s possible tomorrow through Monday.

A tropical storm is likely to form by Saturday in the Bahamas and this storm will head westward towards Southern Florida, making landfall as either a tropical storm or weak hurricane by Sunday night. It will then head westward, reaching the Eastern Gulf of Mexico or the West Coast of Florida by Monday morning. It will then likely turn northward up the West Coast of Florida, either right along the coast or off shore. If the storm tracks right along the coast it will remain either a strong tropical storm a weak hurricane. If the storm takes a track further west, over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, it will likely become at least a category 2 hurricane. It is too early to tell which track it will take, but either way, residents in South Florida and along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida should be on the lookout for the possibility of very heavy flooding rains and strong winds Sunday through Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

The storm will then turn northeastward after making landfall on the Florida panhandle Tuesday night, tracking through Georgia and the Carolinas, exiting near Cape Hatteras, NC, next Friday morning, then heading out to sea.

The currently projected track of this storm would keep the effects of this storm south of the Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas, leaving us with just a chance of a shower or thunderstorm Tuesday through next Friday and highs in the mid to upper 80’s, with some low 90’s possible.

Next weekend then looks nice with highs dropping to the 70’s next Saturday and the low to mid 80’s next Sunday.

Labor Day there will be a chance of a shower or thunderstorm as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs should be in the mid 80’s to low 90’s inland.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday then look nice and cooler with highs mainly around 80, to the low 80’s.

Have a fantastic day and let’s keep a close eye on the potential for a hurricane to affect Florida.
