Wednesday, August 24, 2016 - Evening Weather Discussion

Slight chance of shower/thunderstorm tomorrow night/Friday, and then a potential hurricane to watch...

There will be a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow night and Friday, otherwise it should be nice and warm tomorrow through Sunday with highs ranging from the mid 80's to the low to mid 90's.

A hurricane may develop in the Bahamas Saturday, then make landfall on South Florida early Sunday morning. It is now looking as if the storm may track due north after heading westward across South Florida and reaching the Gulf of Mexico, tracking up the Florida Gulf Coast Sunday through Tuesday, making landfall on the Northeastern Florida Panhandle late Tuesday night. This track, with the close proximity to the Florida Coast would prevent the storm from gaining much strength, likely keeping it a category 1 hurricane. This track would however mean some serious problems with flooding along the Florida west coast as the persistent winds from the south would cause the bays, such as Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor, to back up quite a bit, and combined with the heavy rainfall from the storm, could produce some serious flooding along the Florida west coast. We will have to wait and see how this works out.

The storm is then expected to track through the Southeastern United States, bringing some heavy rains to that area Tuesday through Thursday, exiting the coast early Friday near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

If this track verifies it would leave us with just a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day from Monday through Friday but would keep the main part of this storm to our south. Highs should be in the 80's to low 90's Monday and Tuesday, dropping to the mid 80's next Wednesday through Friday.

Next Saturday through Tuesday then look nice behind the storm with highs remaining in the 80's.

Have a wonderful evening and lets keep a close eye on the potential hurricane developing near Florida Saturday.
