Wednesday, August 24, 2016 - Morning Weather Discussion

Nice but getting hot and then a major hurricane possible in the Gulf of Mexico next week…

It will be nice through Sunday with just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm Friday but it will start getting warmer with highs in the mid to upper 80’s today, the mid 80’s to low 90’s tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, and the upper 80’s to mid 90’s Friday.

Meanwhile, a tropical system will likely develop into a category 1 hurricane in the Bahamas Saturday, making landfall late Saturday night near Miami. This storm will then track across South Florida, exiting near Naples or Marco Island on the West Coast of Florida Sunday morning. It will then likely gain strength rapidly, possibly reaching category 4 strength, as it heads westward through the Gulf of Mexico. It is now looking as if it may take a track a bit further westward, making landfall as far west as the Texas or Louisiana Gulf Coast. If this were to occur, it would bring catastrophic damage to those areas, especially since Louisiana has already received tremendous flooding from earlier rainfall. Click here to read the latest from the National Hurricane Center on the storm that could become a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico early next week.

In our area it will get a bit unsettled Monday night through the following Monday with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day. It will be hot Monday and Tuesday with highs in many places breaking 90 degrees. Temperatures will then drop to the low to mid 80’s next Wednesday through Friday, then possibly rise again to around 90 next Saturday, then fall to the low to mid 80’s next Sunday and the 70’s next Monday as the remnants of the hurricane finally pass through our area.

Next Tuesday is then looking nice with highs only around 70.

Have a fantastic day and let’s keep a close eye on the potential major hurricane to develop over the weekend and into early next week.
