Hurricane Hermine likely to affect our area...
Tropical Storm Hermine was just upgraded to Hurricane Hermine. Click here to read the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.
Hermine will likely affect our area this weekend and into Labor Day, messing up some Labor Day plans, especially if they involved going to the beach. A Tropical Storm watch was issued for coastal locations. Click here to read the advisories from the National Weather Service.
First though, we will have a few scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening and then one more nice day tomorrow with highs near 80 in many places.
Then Hurricane Hermine will approach from the south. Hermine may be downgraded to a Tropical Storm after it moves inland on the Florida Panhandle tonight, then through Southern Georgia and the Eastern Carolinas. Hermine will then make its way back out over the ocean near the Virginia Capes Saturday afternoon. Hermine could then strengthen once again, nearing hurricane status when it reaches a point about 50 miles southeast of Atlantic City or off the DelMarva Peninsula. Hermine should then stall out, or possibly move slightly westward, nearing or making landfall on the coast of the Delmarva or South Jersey Sunday night. Hermine should then nudge ever slow slight further off shore Monday through Wednesday.
If Hermine takes the currently projected track the results in our area would be increasing clouds and wind Saturday and then rain developing Sunday, possibly heavy at times in coastal sections. Winds would likely gust to tropical storm strength throughout coast areas and possibly further inland as well Sunday. It is even possible they could near hurricane strength in coastal South Jersey Sunday night. It currently appears as if coastal sections could get 1-3 inches of rain, with lighter amounts inland, but this is subject to change. Highs would be mainly in the 70's, and in the 60's in areas with heavy rain.
Things should then gradually clear Monday through Wednesday with highs rising through the 80's.
Next Thursday through Saturday temperatures will continue to warm, reaching around 90 next Thursday and Friday and the low to mid 90's next Saturday.
Next Saturday night there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches our area.
Next Sunday and Monday should then be nice with highs around 80.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday should then be nice with highs in the 80's.
