Lowering snowfall amounts a bit again…
I will lower snowfall amounts a bit again as it appears that the heaviest of the precipitation won’t make it into our area until after it turns to rain. There could however be a small amount of sleet and freezing rain prior to the complete change to rain early in the morning between about 2 am and 6 am from south to north across our area.
Total possible accumulations are as follows:
Coating to an inch: Central NJ, NYC, and on Long Island
Coating to an inch or two: Northeastern NJ, Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam Counties in NY, and in Fairfield County, CT
1-3 inches: East Central PA, Northwestern NJ, Orange County NY (highest amounts in far northwestern sections of all these regions)
2-5 inches: Northeastern PA, and possibly far Northwestern Orange County, NY
The precipitation will end as rain in most, if not all, locations by around early afternoon tomorrow. Highs will be mainly in the 40’s roughly north of Rt. 78 in PA and NJ, and in the low 50’s south of about Rt. 78 in NJ, and in NYC and on Long Island.
Tuesday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of some snow showers at night. Highs will range from the mid to upper 30’s in Northeastern PA to the low 40’s in Central and Northeastern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island.
Wednesday then looks nice with highs in the 30’s to low 40’s.
Thursday then looks variably cloudy with a slight chance of a snow shower as a strong cold front moves through our area. Highs will be in the mid teens to mid 20’s.
Friday looks nice, but very cold, with LOWS DROPPING AS LOW AS THE LOW TO MID SINGLE DIGITS BELOW ZERO IN NORTHEASTERN PA AND THE LOW SINGLE DIGITS BELOW ZERO IN THE COLDEST PARTS OF NORTHWESTERN NJ, SOUTHEASTERN NY STATE AND NORTHERN FAIRFIELD COUNTY, CT. Highs will only be in the teens to low 20’s.
Saturday there will be a good chance of snow in the morning, changing to rain by afternoon. There could be a significant accumulation of snow prior to the changeover to rain. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.
Sunday there will be a chance of rain in the morning, followed by clearing, as a strong cold front moves through the area. Highs will be in the 50’s, with some low 60’s possible in Central NJ and up to NYC and Long Island.
Next Monday then looks nice with highs in the 20’s.
Next Tuesday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of rain or snow developing in the afternoon as a storm system approaches from the Southeastern United States. Highs will be in the mid 20’s to mid 30’s.
Next Wednesday we will have a chance of rain or snow ending in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the 40’s.
Next Thursday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a rain or snow shower. Highs will be in the 40’s.
Next Friday then looks nice with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.
Christmas Eve there will be a chance of rain or snow showers with highs in the 40’s.
