Friday, August 25, 2017 - Morning Weather Discussion

Harvey may cause catastrophic flooding in Southeastern Texas!

Hurricane Harvey is approaching the Texas Gulf Coast and will make landfall just north of Corpus Christi late tonight or early tomorrow morning. The storm will then stall out there into the middle of next week. This will bring Southeastern Texas 20-50 inches of rain and this could include the Houston area. Anyone in this area, or who knows anyone in this area, should take necessary precautions for historic flooding. I think anyone living in a thousand year flood zone in that area should probably leave. I just don’t think the hundred year flood zone will be enough for this one. I hope the state and federal government are preparing to help…

Back in our area, it will be nice through Monday, with just a slight chance of a shower this morning and again Monday. Highs will be from the upper 60’s to low 70’s in Northeastern PA to the mid to upper 70’s in Central NJ today, the 70’s tomorrow, the 70’s to low 80’s Sunday, and the upper 60’s to mid 70’s Monday.

A tropical system is also likely to develop this weekend along the coast of the Southeastern United States. This storm will then track northeastward, and it now appears it may come close enough to the coast to not only cause some high surf in our area, but possibly some showers or thunderstorms as well on Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.

Wednesday and Thursday then look nice with highs in the 70’s to low 80’s Wednesday and the mid 70’s to mid 80’s Thursday.

Next Friday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm early in the morning, followed by clearing as a cold front passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s.

Next Saturday looks nice with highs in the mid 70’s to low 80’s.

Next Sunday through Tuesday may then be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day as the remnants of Harvey may finally make it into our area. Highs will be in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s next Sunday, dropping to the 70’s next Monday and Tuesday.

Next Wednesday and Thursday then look nice with highs in the 70’s.

Have a fantastic day and hope for the best in Southeastern Texas.
