Hurricane Irma is about to devastate much of Florida and in our area we need to start watching Hurricane Jose…
Hurricane Irma is working her way along the northern coast of Cuba and is just starting to turn northward. Irma will continue northward, possibly making landfall just west of Fort Myers, likely near Sanibel Island and Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island. Winds are likely to be 100-120 mph in Southwestern Florida, possibly as far north as Tampa Bay and as far inland as about the exact center of the Florida Peninsula. The eastern half of the peninsula should have winds of 60-80 mph sustained, with gusts of up to 100 mph possible. The strong winds of up to 80 mph may make it as far north as Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the strong winds tornadoes will be widespread, as well flooding rains of up to 10-15 inches along the West Coast of Florida, and the storm surge could be as much as 10-15 feet on parts of the Southwest Coast of Florida.

In our immediate area it will be nice through Tuesday with highs in the mid 60’s to mid 70’s tomorrow, the 70’s Monday, and the mid 70’s to low 80’s Tuesday.
Wednesday through next Monday then look variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day as the remnants of Irma pass through our area and then an onshore flow of air enters our area ahead of Jose which will be approaching from the south. Highs will be in the 70’s to low 80’s Wednesday, the 70’s to low 80’s Thursday, the 70’s Friday, the mid 70’s to low 80’s next Saturday, the 70’s next Sunday, and the upper 60’s to low 70’s next Monday.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday we will have a chance of showers or thunderstorms, and it could be windy, as Hurricane Jose may be approaching our area. Highs will be in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.
Next Thursday and Friday then look nice with highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
Have a wonderful evening and let’s hope for the best for our friends and family in Florida…
