Saturday, September 9, 2017 - Morning Weather Discussion

Irma is about to devastate much of Florida…

Hurricane Irma is about to devastate much of Florida as she is currently tracking along the north shore of Cuba and then will turn abruptly north northwestward, likely passing about 25 miles off the West Coast of Florida and making landfall on the Panhandle. This will bring winds of 70-160 mph to the entire peninsula of Florida and to parts of the Eastern Panhandle. Strong winds will make it as far inland as Northern Georgia, the Mountains of Western North Carolina, and to Southwestern South Carolina. The effects of this wind and the storm surge could just be unreal in Southwest Florida, possibly as far north as Tampa Bay, or up the entire West Coast of Florida. Let’s hope for the best for our friends in Florida. Below is a picture from CNN this morning of Chad Myers showing the storm surge potential in Florida.

In our area, it will be nice through Tuesday with highs rising from the upper 50’s to upper 60’s today, the mid 60’s to low 70’s tomorrow, the 70’s Monday, and the mid 70’s to low 80’s Tuesday.

Wednesday through next Wednesday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day as the remnants of Irma pass through our area, followed by the possibility of Hurricane Jose coming close enough to the East Coast to cause some onshore wind flow with the chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day. Highs will be in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s Wednesday, the 70’s to low 80’s Thursday, the 70’s Friday, the 60’s to low 70’s next Saturday, the upper 60’s to mid 70’s next Sunday, the low to mid 70’s next Monday, the mid 60’s to low 70’s next Tuesday, and the mid 60’s to low 70’s next Wednesday.

Next Thursday and Friday then look nice with highs in the mid 60’s to mid 70’s next Thursday and the upper 60’s to low 70’s next Friday.

Have a fantastic day and let’s hope for the best for our family and friends in Florida…
