Wednesday, March 21, 2018 - Morning Weather Discussion

A Nor’easter will form off the coast of the Delmarva Peninsula today as a disturbance approaching from the west phases with another disturbance already sitting off the Middle Atlantic Coast. The storm will then head eastward and out to sea tonight. This will cause snow today, possibly heavy at times in some locations. Some sleet is likely to mix with the snow in Central NJ and on Long Island. It will also become windy with gusts up to 30 mph inland and 40 mph along the coast. Some coastal flooding will be possible. Some power outages are possible due to the heavy, wet, nature of the snow, potentially snapping tree limbs. Some coastal flooding is also possible. Highs will be in the low to mid 30’s.

Total possible accumulations as follows:

Coating to 8 inches:  Northeastern PA with gradually increasing amounts as you head south from the NY Border in Susquehanna and Wayne Counties, to southern Monroe and Carbon Counties

3-7 inches:  Southeastern NY State, with gradually increasing amounts as you head south from Northern Orange County

4-7 inches:  Fairfield County, CT and Eastern Long Island, with some sleet mixed in, especially on Long Island

5-8 inches: NYC and Western Long Island

4-12 inches: Northern and Central NJ with the lowest amounts likely in far Northern Sussex County and the highest amounts most likely in Southern Morris and Warren Counties, Hunterdon County, and in Western Monmouth County, some sleet will occur in Central NJ

6-12 inches: East Central PA, with the lowest amounts in Northern Lehigh and Northampton Counties

Tomorrow the snow will end early in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.

Friday and Saturday will then be nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s Friday and the 40’s Saturday.

Sunday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of snow showers as a disturbance passes through our area from the north. A coating to an inch of accumulation will be possible. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Monday and Tuesday will then be nice with highs in the low to mid 40’s Monday and the mid 40’s to low 50’s Tuesday.
