Saturday, December 22, 2018 - Morning Weather Discussion

Some snow likely Sunday night and then watching a bigger snow chance for New Year’s Eve/Day…

Any leftover rain showers and some snow showers in Northeastern PA will end this morning, followed by clearing as a cold front passes through our area. Temperatures will drop this morning, reaching the mid 30’s to mid 40’s by afternoon.

Tomorrow clouds will increase in the afternoon and evening as a couple of weak disturbances approach our area. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

These two weak disturbances will combine to bring us light snow and snow showers Sunday night into Monday morning. It will then be variably cloudy with a chance of snow showers or flurries. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Total possible snowfall accumulation Sunday night into Monday morning:

A trace to a coating:  Long Island

A trace to a half of an inch:  Central NJ and New York City

A coating to an inch:  Northeastern NJ and Rockland and Westchester Counties in NY

A half of an inch to an inch:  East Central PA and Southern Fairfield County, CT

A half of an inch to an inch and a half:  Northwestern NJ, Orange and Putnam Counties in NY, and Northern Fairfield County, CT

One to two inches:  Northeastern PA

Christmas Day will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry at night as a very weak disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Wednesday and Thursday will then be nice, but with a chance of a flurry Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s Wednesday and the mid 30’s to low 40’s Thursday.

Friday, rain will develop in the morning, possibly starting as a brief period of snow or sleet in some places, as a strong storm system passes through our area. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.

Next Saturday will be variably cloudy. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Next Sunday clouds will increase with a chance of snow developing at night as a cold front passes through our area and then a disturbance rides along the front. Highs will be in the 30’s.

New Year’s Eve through New Year’s Day and into next Wednesday morning there will be a chance of snow as more disturbances may ride along the stalled out cold front just to our south and east and one of these disturbances could develop into a Nor’easter. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s New Year’s Eve and Day, and in the 30’s next Wednesday.

Next Thursday there will be a chance of snow developing again at night as another disturbance approaches our area. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.

Next Friday there will be a chance of snow as a disturbance may pass through our area. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.

Have a fantastic day!
