Sunday, December 16, 2018 - Morning Weather Discussion

Heavy rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow in parts of our area today…

A strong disturbance is approaching the Delmarva Peninsula this morning and will develop into a Nor’easter near the Southern NJ Coast by around midday today. The storm will then move northeastward reaching a point just south of Cape Cod tonight. This track is allowing cold air to move back into parts of our area and will bring freezing rain to Northeastern PA, Northern Sussex and Northwestern Passaic Counties in NJ, and Orange and Putnam Counties in NY, where a quarter of an inch of ice accumulation will be possible, with up to a half of an inch in the highest elevations. The freezing rain will then change to snow this afternoon and evening in Northeastern PA, and will mix with or change to snow in far Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State (excluding Southern Westchester County), and in Northern Fairfield County, CT, with total snowfall amounts of a coating to 5 inches possible in Northeastern PA, a trace to an inch or two in far Northwestern NJ and Orange County, NY, and a coating to an inch in Northern Westchester and Putnam Counties in NY, and in Fairfield County, CT.  Total rainfall amounts will be up to one and a half inches, so some flooding is possible. It will also be windy, with gusts up to 30 mph possible. Highs will be in the 30’s to low 40’s.

Tomorrow, any precipitation will end early in the morning on Long Island and in Fairfield County, CT, then it will be variably cloudy with a chance of a flurry in the afternoon or at night. It will be windy with gusts of up to 40 mph possible. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Tuesday will then be mostly sunny, but cold and windy in the morning, with gusts of up to 40 mph possible. Highs will be in the mdi 20’s to mid 30’s.

Wednesday will then be nice with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Thursday clouds will increase with rain developing in the afternoon or at night as a strong storm system approaches from the Southeastern United States. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Friday there will be rain, possibly heavy at times, as the storm system passes to our west, bringing warm air into our area. It will be very windy, with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Highs will be in the 50’s.

Saturday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower in the morning, followed by clearing as the storm system pulls away from our area. It will be windy, with gusts up to 40 mph possible. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.

Next Sunday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry. Highs will be in the mid to upper 30’s.

Christmas Eve will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow flurry. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Christmas Day through next Friday will then be nice with highs in the 30’s.

Next Saturday clouds will increase with a chance of rain or snow developing as a disturbance approaches our area. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Have a fantastic day!
