Thursday, July 11, 2019 - Morning Weather Discussion

Showers/thunderstorms today, possibly severe, with very heavy rain possible in places, and then watching a tropical system in the Gulf…

A cold front is approaching our area today and will bring a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm this morning, except for showers or thunderstorms likely this morning in Eastern PA, and then showers and thunderstorms will be likely throughout our area this afternoon and evening. The showers and thunderstorms could be severe in some places, especially in Eastern PA. The rain could be very heavy in parts of our area, especially in Eastern PA. There could be some flash flooding in any areas that receive the very heavy rainfall. Click here to view the convective outlook from the Storm Prediction Center. Highs today will range from the mid 70’s to low 80’s in Northeastern PA, to the upper 70’s to low 80’s along the coast, and the mid to upper 80’s elsewhere.

A disturbance in the North Central Gulf of Mexico will strengthen today to a Tropical Storm that will be named Barry, and then possibly to a hurricane as it heads west north west, making landfall along the Louisiana Coast Saturday morning. This storm will bring very heavy rain to Louisiana that could threaten the New Orleans area with flooding that could be severe in some places. The remnants of Barry may reach our area next Thursday. Tuesday will be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening as some warm and moist air starts to stream into our area ahead of the approaching remnants of Barry. Highs will be in the mid 80’s to low 90’s.

Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm as warm and moist air continues to stream into our area ahead of the remnants of Barry. Highs will be in the mid 80’s to low 90’s.
