Saturday, August 31, 2019 - Evening Weather Discussion

Hurricane Dorian will do catastrophic damage to the Bahamas, but may largely spare the United States…

Hurricane Dorian is approaching the Bahamas and will likely do catastrophic damage there, stalling out through Tuesday.  Dorian will then move northward, reaching a point off the South Carolina Coast Wednesday night, then turning northeastward and paralleling the coast of the Carolinas. Dorian no longer appears to be a threat to Florida, and will likely come close to the Coastal Carolinas, but the eye will likely remain just offshore. This would be very good news, as everyone would be on the weak side of the storm. There still could however be some severe coastal flooding in many locations. Dorian will then head out to sea, continuing northeastward from the Carolinas, with no effects expected in our area, as an approaching cold front should help push Dorian out to sea.
