Friday, November 29, 2019 - Morning Weather Discussion

Nor'easter to bring our area snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain Sunday and Monday...

Today and tomorrow will be variably cloudy with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s today and the upper 30’s to mid 40’s tomorrow.

Sunday, two disturbance will be approaching our area. One from the Great lakes area in the Northern Jet Stream, and one from the Southeastern United States in the Southern Jet Stream. This will cause snow to develop in the morning, except for rain or snow developing near the NJ Coast, changing to rain in the afternoon in Central NJ and on the South Shore of Long Island, and mixing with sleet and freezing rain in East Central PA, Northeastern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island, before changing to rain, with a mixture of sleet and freezing rain continuing in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT. Significant accumulations of ice are possible in East Central and Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT, and light accumulations of snow are possible in Northeastern PA, Northern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island, and a couple of inches possible in Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT. It will also become windy in the afternoon and evening, and especially at night, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible at night, especially in East Central NJ and on Long Island. Lows will range from the low to mid 20’s in Northeastern PA, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT, to the mid 30’s along the NJ Coast, with highs in the mid 20’s to low 30’s in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY state and Fairfield County, CT, the low to mid 30’s in East Central PA and Northeastern NJ, the upper 30’s to low 40’s in NYC and on Long Island, and in the 40’s in Central NJ.

The two disturbances and their associated Jet Streams will merge just off the NJ Coast Sunday night, causing a Nor’easter to form. As the Nor’easter undergoes rapid intensification late Sunday night into Monday morning, the storm will pull cold air down into our area from the north, changing all of the precipitation back to snow from west to east across our area, starting from very early in the morning on Monday in East Central and Northeastern PA, to the late morning along the coast and on Long Island. The snow will then end in the late afternoon and evening from west to east. There could be significant accumulations of snow in East Central and Northeastern PA, Central and Northern NJ, NYC, Southeastern NY State, on Long Island, and in Fairfield County, CT. It will be windy early in the morning with gusts of up to 45 mph possible, lows from the upper 20’s in Northeastern PA, to the mid to upper 30’s along the NJ Coast and on Eastern Long Island, highs in the morning from the upper 20’s to low 30’s in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT, to the mid to upper 30’s along the coast and on Long Island, dropping in the afternoon.
