Two disturbances will approach our area tomorrow, one from the west in the Northern Jet Stream, and one from the Southeastern United States in the Southern Jet Stream. This will cause snow to develop in the morning from west to east, except rain along the NJ Coast. The snow will change to rain in Central NJ in the late morning, mixing with and then changing to rain in NYC and on Long Island, mixing with sleet, freezing rain, and then changing to rain in East Central PA and Northern NJ, changing to sleet and freezing rain in Northeastern PA, and possibly mixing with or changing to sleet and freezing rain in Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT, then changing back to snow at night in Southeastern NY State, Fairfield County, CT, Northeastern PA, and possibly far Northwestern NJ. There could be a significant accumulation of ice in East Central and Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT, Sunday afternoon and evening. It will become windy in the afternoon and especially evening, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible, except up to 55 mph possible along the coast and on Long Island. Lows will be in the 20’s to low 30’s with some mid 30’s along the NJ Coast, highs from the upper 20’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 40’s to mid 50’s along the NJ Coast.
The two disturbances will combine to form a Nor’easter near the NJ Coast Sunday night, rapidly intensifying and causing the precipitation to change back to snow from Northwest to Southeast Sunday night, starting in Northeastern PA, Sunday night, then in Central and Northern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island in the morning, ending in Central NJ around midday. It will be windy in the morning with gusts of up to 35 mph inland and up to 50 mph along the coast and on Long Island. Lows will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s, with highs early in the morning from the upper 20’s to low 30’s in Northeastern PA, to the mid to upper 40’s along the coast, then dropping.
Tuesday there will be a chance of light snow and snow showers ending early in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.
Total possible snowfall accumulation:
1-3 inches: Central NJ and Long Island
2-4 inches: NYC
2-6 inches: East Central PA, Northeastern NJ, Southern Westchester County, NY
3-9 inches: Northwestern NJ, Northern Westchester County, NY, Fairfield County, CT
4-10 inches: Northeastern PA, far Northwestern NJ, Rockland, Northern Westchester, and Putnam Counties in NY
6-12 inches: Orange County, NY
Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.
Thursday will be variably cloudy with highs in the 30’s to low 40’s.
Friday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower in the afternoon or evening. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.
Next Saturday, December 7this then looking nice with highs in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.
Next Sunday, December 8th, through next Friday, December 13th, are then looking variably cloudy with a chance of a shower each day, especially next Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s next Sunday, the 40’s next Monday, the upper 30’s to mid 40’s next Tuesday through Thursday, and the 40’s next Friday.
