Saturday, January 4, 2020 - Evening Weather Discussion

Rain gradually changing to snow tonight in many places, a bit more snow tomorrow night, and then a bit more possible Tuesday night…

The rain will gradually change to snow overnight in many locations, with a trace to a coating of accumulation possible in Northwestern NJ, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam Counties in NY and in Northern Fairfield County CT, and a trace to an inch possible in Northeastern PA.

The rain and snow will end early in the morning, followed by variably cloudy skies and a chance for light snow or flurries developing at night as another disturbance approaches our area. Highs will range from the low 30’s in Northeastern PA to the low 40’s in Central NJ.

Monday, any snow will end early in the morning, followed by gradual clearing. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Total possible snowfall accumulation Sunday night into early Monday:

Trace to a coating possible:  Central NJ, Eastern Long Island

Trace to a half inch possible:  East Central PA, Northeastern NJ, NYC, Westchester County, NY, Western Long Island, Fairfield County, CT

Coating to an inch possible:  Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam Counties in NY

Tuesday, clouds will increase with a chance of light snow developing from southwest to northeast in the late afternoon and evening as another disturbance approaches our area. The precipitation could start briefly as rain in Central NJ, NYC, and on Long Island, before changing to light snow. The light snow will end during the night. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s. There could be some light snowfall accumulations.

Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower or flurry. Highs will be in the 30’s to low 40’s.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 30’s.

Friday there will be a chance of showers as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Next Saturday, January 11th, into the morning of next Sunday, January 12th, there will be a chance of rain as a strong disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s and 50’s next Saturday and the 40’s to low 50’s next Sunday.

Next Monday, January 13th, clouds will increase with a chance of showers in the afternoon and evening as another disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Next Tuesday, January 14th, there will be a chance of showers as the disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s.

Next Wednesday, January 15th, will be variably cloudy with highs in the 40’s.

Next Thursday, January 16th and next Friday, January 17th, there will be a chance of rain or snow showers as another disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 30’s to low 40’s next Thursday, and in the 30’s next Friday.
