Friday, February 7, 2020 - Morning Weather Discussion

Heavy snow in Northeastern PA, a bit of snow into other parts of our area today, strong winds, but not too much rain…

A very strong low-pressure area will be developing this morning over Northern Virginia. This low-pressure area will intensify very rapidly as it moves northeastward, passing right over our area late this morning and early this afternoon. Temperatures will range this morning from the mid 30’s to mid 40’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 50’s to low 60’s in East Central NJ, dropping rapidly late this morning in Northeastern PA and early this afternoon elsewhere. This will cause the rain to change to snow in Northeastern PA, and possibly into East Central PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT. The snow could accumulate anywhere from 1-10 inches in Northeastern PA, with the lowest amounts near East Central PA and along the NJ border, and the highest amounts in the highest elevations. Travel may become very difficult, very quickly, late this morning and early this afternoon in parts of Northeastern PA as the snow will come down very hard and accumulate very quickly. East Central PA, Northwestern NJ, and Orange County, NY could receive a trace to an inch of snow, with a trace to a coating possible in Northeastern NJ, the rest of Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT. The precipitation will then end in the late morning and early evening.
