Monday, August 24th, 2020 - Daily Weather Discussion

Chance of showers or thunderstorms today, tomorrow, and Thursday through Saturday and some of the storms could be severe tomorrow…

There are two tropical storms to watch, Marco, which is falling apart as it approaches the Central Gulf Coast, and Laura, which is of much greater concern. Tropical Storm Laura is currently located just south of Cuba and will eventually reach the Gulf of Mexico. Once in the Gulf of Mexico, Laura will likely reach hurricane strength. Laura is a significantly better organized system than Marco and will need to be watched closely, as Laura has the potential to reach major hurricane strength prior to making landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast Wednesday night. The remnants of Laura may combine with a disturbance and cold front approaching from the west to bring us showers and thunderstorms Friday and Saturday. Click here for the latest on Marco and Laura from the National Hurricane Center.

Of more immediate concern in our area is a weak cold front approaching our area from the west. There is very warm and humid area streaming into our area from the south, ahead of this front. As the front approaches our area today there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening, some of which could be severe, and an even better chance for severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening as the front passes through our area. Click here for the latest convective outlook from the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.

Today and tomorrow will be variably cloudy with a chance of afternoon or evening showers or thunderstorms as a weak cold front slowly approaches today and then passes through our area tomorrow. Some of the storms could be severe, especially tomorrow. Highs will be in the 80’s today and in the 80’s to low 90’s tomorrow.

Wednesday is then looking nice and cooler, with highs in the mid 70’s to low 80’s.

Thursday will be variably cloudy with a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm as a cold front, disturbance, and the remnants of Hurricane Laura approach, bringing much warmer and moist air to our area. Highs will be in the mid 80’s to low 90’s.

Friday, clouds will increase with afternoon or evening showers or thunderstorms likely as the remnants of Hurricane Laura, a cold front, and a disturbance continue to approach our area. Highs will be in the 80’s.

Saturday will be variably cloudy with afternoon or evening showers or thunderstorms likely as the remnants of Hurricane Laura, a disturbance, and a cold front pass through our area. Highs will be in the upper 70’s and 80’s.

Sunday through next Saturday, September 5th, are then looking nice with highs gradually rising from the upper 60’s and 70’s Sunday, to the low to mid 70’s next Monday, the mid to upper 70’s next Tuesday, the mid 70’s to low 80’s next Wednesday, and the upper 70’s to mid 80’s next Thursday and Friday.

Next Sunday, September 6th, is then looking variably cloudy with a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. Highs will be in the mid 70’s to low 80’s.
