I want to elaborate a bit on the situation we
may be facing tomorrow for the evening commute. I don't think the
National Weather Service nor the radio broadcasts that I heard this morning did
a very good job of highlighting the possible problems we may be facing.
The European model clearly indicates that temperatures will drop as the
precipitation starts to fall between 3 pm and 5 pm, falling from the middle to
upper 30's prior to its onset, to 30-32 quickly after the precipitation starts
falling. Temperatures will then remain below freezing until around 8 pm
in Northeast New Jersey and 9 pm to 10 pm in Northwest New Jersey. It is
hard to tell for sure whether the precipitation will fall as snow,
sleet, or freezing rain, but there is certainly the potential for a
dusting to an inch of ice and snow accumulation, especially in the higher
elevations of Northwest New Jersey. This could very well lead to
slippery road conditions for the evening commute tomorrow. The only area
that may be safe from this would possibly be extreme Northeast New Jersey,
right near the Hudson River. Otherwise the rest of us should be on the
lookout for the potential of snowy and icing driving conditions tomorrow
evening from between 3 pm and 10 pm. Then for Wednesday I don't hear much
talk about the potential for flash flooding and the high wind conditions that
would make for very messy travel conditions all day on Wednesday. Also,
there will be high winds through much of the day on Thanksgiving, as well as very
cold temperatures, making for a brutally cold Thanksgiving Day.
