Afternoon European Model Update
The afternoon run of the European model still makes Saturday early morning look interesting, showing the chance for a little accumulating snow in Northern New Jersey, in fact it actually shows the chance for 1-3 inches right now with the lowest amounts in eastern and southern sections of northern New Jersey and the highest amounts possible across Sussex and Northern Warren counties where the model projects that as much as 3 inches could fall. Then things may get really interesting for late Sunday and early Monday as it will be quite cold as that storm starts entering our area. Right now the model is projecting that Northern New Jersey could see anywhere from .40-.70 inches of liquid equivalent fall as a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain prior to any changeover around sunrise on Monday morning. If this were to occur it would likely create major travel problems for the morning rush on Monday. The European model then brings the next piece of energy in quicker for my potential storm for the middle of the week. It actually brings this piece of energy through here on Tuesday, with another round of rain in the morning, changing to snow in the afternoon, possibly accumulating as much as a dusting in southeastern sections to as much as 3 inches in northwestern sections. If this storm came through on Tuesday though the cold air will only be coming into place as the storm is exiting, much as our Saturday morning storm, preventing a major accumulation. If the energy holds back though and moves through here on Wednesday or Thursday, as some models have been indicating it might, then it would have the opportunity to become a significant storm. We will just have to wait and see how all that works out. And yes, the model also indicates the chances of yet another storm developing by Friday or Saturday. Much action is likely to come our way so check back for constant detailed updates.
